We turn our plant wastes into resources again, rather than filling in the land or simply incinerating them.
With the goal of reducing industrial wastes and use of wastes as resources, we launched in fiscal 2001 our Zero Emission Activities. The activities were expanded to Group companies since April 2005. The percentage of wastes used as resources in fiscal 2008 was 99.6% for the entire Group.
In addition, we launched in November 2004 Zero Emission Activities at the Head Office building in Osaka as an initiative at an office building. By thoroughly implementing separation of wastes, the percentage of wastes used as resources at the building reached 100% in fiscal 2008.
We have set target fields of green procurement to preferentially purchase safe and eco-friendly products.
Based upon the philosophy of the Act on Promoting Green Purchasing, we have implemented green procurement since October 2001. We have set ten targeted areas of green procurement, including paper and stationery, to strive to reach our goals. The percentage of green procurement in fiscal 2008 was 98%. Of the purchase amount of 352 million yen in the targeted areas, green purchase accounted for 346 million yen.
