1959

Sekisui Sponge Industries Co. Ltd. was founded, with the head office and factory in Minamikyobatecho in Nara City, to produce expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foams.

Launched production and distribution of expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads.

1961

The Tokyo Office (the current Tokyo Head Office in Shinjuku-ku) was opened in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
The Kanto Factory (the current Sekisui Plastics Kanto) was launched in Sashima District, Ibaraki.
The Head Office was move to new premises in Kita-ku, Osaka.

1962

Launched production and distribution of polystyrene paper (PSP).

1963

Launched production and distribution of polyurethane foams.

1964

The company became listed on the second division of the Osaka Securities Exchange.

1966

The Tenri Factory was launched in Tenri City, Nara, to produce polystyrene paper (PSP).

1968

The production and distribution of polyethylene foams were launched at the Kanto Factory and Tenri Factory.

1969

The trade name was changed to Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd. and the main store was moved to new premises in Nara City (the Head Office remained in Osaka).
The Shiga Factory (the current Sekisui Plastics Shiga) was opened in Koka, Shiga, to produce expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads.

1970

Kawahara Plastics (the current Sekisui Plastics East) was founded in Sashima District, Ibaraki.

1971

Launched collaboration with leading consumer electronics companies to start the collection and recycling of expanded polystyrene.

1973

The company become listed on the second division of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Hokkaido Ethylene Co., Ltd. (the current Sekisui Plastics Hokkaido) was founded in Chitose City, Hokkaido.

1978

The Oita Factory (the current Sekisui Plastics Kyushu) was opened in Nakatsu City, Oita, to produce polystyrene paper (PSP).
The company’s shares were moved from the second division to the first division both at the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.

Developing and Maturing Period

1985

Acrylic polymer microparticles product TECHPOLYMER was launched.
Civil engineering technology using expanded polystyrene was developed.

1989

The Okayama Factory (the current Okayama Production Unit of Sekisui Plastics Tenri) was opened in Kasaoka City, Okayama, to produce polystyrene paper (PSP).

1993

1994

The Ibaraki Shimodate Factory (the current Shimodate Production Unit of Sekisui Plastics Kanto) was launched, to produce polystyrene paper (PSP).
The company acquired Giken Kasei (the current Sekisui Giken in Itami, Hyogo).

1995

The Nara Factory was forced to close due to eminent domain proceedings by Nara City.
The main store was moved to the Head Office in Kita-ku, Osaka.

Restructuring and Growth as a New, Transformed Company

Sekisui Plastics (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd. was founded.

2004

Sekisui Plastics Yamaguchi Co., Ltd. was founded in Hofu City, Yamaguchi.
Sekisui Plastics (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd. were founded in Shanghai and Teianjin, China.
The company increased its stake in Yun Chu Chemial Industrial Co., Ltd. (current Taiwan Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd.) and made it a consolidated subsidiary.

Sekisui Plastics U.S.A., Inc was founded in Tennessee, US.

2007

Sekisui Plastics Europe B.V. was founded in Almelo, Netherlands.
Sekisui Plastics (Suzhou) was founded in Suzhou, China.
SEKIWOO Co., Ltd. (current Sekisui Plastics Korea Co., Ltd.) was founded in Seoul, Korea.

2008

台湾積水迅達股份有限公司 (current Taiwan Sekisui Plastics, Co., Ltd.) was founded in Taipei, Taiwan.

Sekisui Plastics Saitama Co., Ltd. was founded.
Sekisui Plastics Saitama Co., Ltd. was founded.

2009

The company acquired the PSP business of Sunpolymer Corporation and founded Sekisui Plastics Saitama in Hasuda City, Saitama.
Sekisui Plastics Group’s 100-Year Vision was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

2010

Suppliers and distributors in the Kyushu region were integrated into the Kyushu branch and relaunched as Sekisui Plastics Kyushu in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka-City.

2012

Distribution subsidiaries in the Chubu region were integrated into the Chubu branch and relaunched as Sekisui Plastics Chubu in Naka-ku, Nagoya City.

2013

Due to the integration of cash equity markets of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange, the company was now listed only on the first division of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Tohoku branch was closed and relaunched as Sekisui Plastics Tohoku in Aoba-ku, Sendai City.

2014

Subsidiaries in the Kanto region were integrated to form a new company called Sekisui Plastics Tobu in Sashima District, Ibaraki.
Group subsidiaries in Taiwan were integrated to found a new company called Taiwan Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd. in Hsinchu.

The Sekisui Plastics S.A. de C.V. was founded in Guanajuato state, Mexico.

2016

The company invests in the automobile parts etc. maker and distributor Yamakyu Co, turning it into its consolidated subsidiary.

2018

Sekisui Plastics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. establishes its 2nd molding unit in Rayong, Thailand.

The company acquires the stocks of the european automobile parts supplier Proseat and launches the sale of the thermoplastic elastomeric foamed unit ELASTIL.
